Hey, y'all, I have a friend in St. Petersburg, and he gave me the telephone number where he can be reached. I'm kinda eager to practice phone etiquette, but I wonder if now would be a bad time. He's staying in a dorm, where apparently it's everyone's business if the phone rings. What do you think, 7AM a little too early for the kids?

And also, could someone brush me up on how to ask for someone on the phone? What is it, "Может (person's name in dative??)"

as far as I know.... I'm not a native speaker, and someone who is (i.e our friendly maintainer) will probably find something wrong with it....

but i've been living in moscow, and that seems acceptable among friends.

"Можно такого-то" or "позовите, пожалуйста, такого-то". And yeah, 7 am is kinda early, although it depends. I know that anyone who calls me at 7 am won't be greeted politely, that's for sure. :)

If you talk to your friend regularly online, just ask what time would be good. And keep the time difference in mind from where you are.
