Upon the results of this discussion, I think it will be a good idea if the community members try to refrain from starting off-topic threads in future. This one was definitely off-topic for the purposes of this community and lead to some painful and unnecessary confrontations.

Off-topic posting is not explicitly prohibited by the community's rules, and there were no complaints. As soon as there were, I acted upon them. Next time something annoys you, please complain immediately, don't wait for three days.

Извините, мне очень сложно сформулировать это на английском, я даже не уверен, что на рссуком получится, но я постараюсь.
В моём посте БЫЛ образовательный и сравнительно-лингвистический смысл: я заметил, что в английском используется a moment of silnce в то время, как в русском - минута молчания. Однако мне показалось, что заметить это одновременно с упоминанием 9/11 было бы просто некрасиво. Я понадеялся, что те, кто хотят, поймут сами. Или вы считаете, что мне и правда стоило написать об этом?

А если кто-то смог на ровном месте завести дискуссию с разжиганием межнациональной розни, - пусть сам разбирается со своими тараканами в башке. Не вижу, почему я должен при написании поста учитывать все возможные пути мысли читателя. Мыслей достаточное многообразие, чтобы одному мне было нереально охватить его целиком.

Then you did not make the purpose of your posting clear enough. You did not say a word about any educational meaning and you did not mention that all you wanted to do was to compare the Russian expression to the English one. I understood it as an appeal to have a moment of silence, and as far as I can see, all the other community members did the same - no one understood it in the way you now say you meant. Next time please be clearer. You wanted to avoid some mythical unpleasantness but what you did (unadvertently maybe) was to create some very real unpleasantness.

I repeat once again, since I didn't intend any unpleasantness at all (since I used to believe that everyone was having the same mood as me), I treat it has appeared only due to hostility of certain commenters, and thus the conflict is to be dealt with them, not with me.
I'm being blamed for off-topic. That's OK. I feel sorry. I will abstain from being off topic next time. Please don't kill me now for the single mistake I had made.
But, please, don't blame me for the commenters' behavior. I don't fell myself responsible for it. They're thinking people, I believe, they could caryy this responsibilty by themselves.
