сызмальствa?

I came across this word -- сызмальства -- from the context (сызмальства почти, от молодых ногтей, любимым словом моим было "дерзание") I am thinking it's "from childhood"
how do I take this word apart : is сыз- a prefix? and, if yes, what other constructions can it be used in?
is сыз- like с or из?

I hope this makes sense

с + из = сыз -- prefix that means from beginning or origin; for example сыздавна, сыздетства, сызнова; this usage is antiquated

с + из = сыз.
с+ и... = сы... (с + играть = сыграть).

According to Ozhegov's dictionary:

СЫЗ... - приставка (просторечное). Образует наречия со значением начальности, например сыздавна (начиная с давних пор), сыздетства (начиная с детства), сызнова, сызмала, сызмальства.

In the contemporary language сыздавна, сызнова, сызмальства are used (though rarely), сыздетства sounds weird.

Сызмальства is not common, it's kinda archaic.

It is not common, you're right, and it is colloquial and outdated. I would avoid using it in typical communications. You can use:

с детства instead of сызмальства
с давних пор instead of сыздавна
снова instead of сызнова

I'm not exactly non-native since I lived in the USSR for the first 13 years of my life
I did forget a lot of it though and my vocabulary is very poor
