This word has been bothering me for a while. I heard it from a song, and ever since, I've been aggravated with it because I can't find a translation. Now, I know it's a verb, but that's about all. I don't know if it's a curse word or something, so I'll hide it behind an LJ-cut.

Зыришь is the word. The line from the song is "Ты зыришь с укором..."

It's slang ("boy talk"), but not a curse word. Indeed, it means to stare or to look ("дай позырить"="дай посмотреть"="let me have a look")

Yes, it's a "school word", and it does mean "to stare". The irony is actually in the mix of this very very informal word with the next one ("укор"), which is quite poetical and kinda grand stylish.

... Земфира is not Russian. Земфира татарка. "Татарка" - one of many nationalities exist in our country. (Dictionary said that "татарка" would be "Tatar (woman)" in English)

And that's why her songs difficult to understand even for russians. It's special poetry that she creates. Sometimes it seemes to me that she just cut sentenses for rhyme.

Yes, you're right. She's from Ufa. I thought Ufa is the capitol of "Республика Татарстан", but it appeared that Ufa is the capitol of "Республика Башкортостан" (or just "Башкортостан"). In that case, she most probably is "башкирка".

Excuse me for my mistake. There are so many autonomies/republics in Russian Federation. In school I memorized them all, but with years that, eh, knowledge gone.

I think, now Земфира lives and records her albums in Moscow.
