Hello / Привет!

I was wondering if someone here could do me a small favour. My Love is away, so I cannot ask him to do this - and my command of Russian is too weak to do it on my own.

I'm looking for two things!

1. A transcript for the movie Alexander Nevsky. I do not know if this is hard to find or not, so please don't tax yourself!

I'm just absolutely in love with this movie right now, and have been using been watching it with subtitles to help my Russian. This has been helpful, but at this point I'd really love to go back through the movie with the Russian transcript in hand - to try writing out and practicing sentences along with the movie.

2. Russian lyrics to the song 'Rise Up, Ye Russian People" - which I am obviously in love with since watching the movie. (Dima found it very funny to come home one day to "вставаите люди Русские!" ;) Imagine if I know the whole song when he gets home! It'll also be a good way to learn some new Russian.

ps. Just because! Today I realized for the first time, I'm actually really able to think in Russian and construct full sentences on my own rather than repeat memorized ones. I'm really happy and excited! In a year of studying Attic Greek, and despite my much greater knowledge in that language - that's something I was never able to accomplish. This is the first time I've self-taught myself a language, and I guess that shows I'm doing something right!

I know exactly how you feel! One day I started thinking in Russian and I go "HOLY CRAP!" It was one of the happiest days of my life. :)

Yeah. I've studied a couple languages now, and I enjoy getting to that point where I can compose sentences in that language, instead of composing them in English and translating word-by-word in my head. Another benchmark is when that language shows up in my dreams -- I just had one last night where I was frantic to get cursive letter shapes correct.

The dreams! I dreamt I was a 'calculator' with crylic letter keys. Somebody was pressing too hard on my ы button and it turned into a nightmare. What does it all mean?! ;)

(Maybe memories of how I've struggled with the ы sound.)

For one respected Oikade there's several hundred more people here, who still cannot read Russian, though they learn to. Every Russian text posted here MUST be translated in order to help those people.

My dreams are always so bizarre. :)

And I've just found ы really difficult, with tips from this community I was able to finally pronounce it but I still slip up sometimes and it takes concentrated effort on my part. I have to make funny faces with my jaw, pretend I have a pencil in my mouth and pull in my neck in order to make the sound. I'm sure with practice it'll become less dramatic (and it already has some) but it's still quite tough on me.

And I always thought that the most difficult russian letter is щ. Or it isn't?

Maybe щ for others, but it was never a problem for me! I'm not sure if it's related, but I have found some sounds easy to pronounce because they are similar to certain sounds I learned speaking French. Perhaps that's why only ы gives me troubles. :)

You most probably understand it perfectly, but I still want to make a point. Here it is. Neither all these words, nor all these expressions make sense in modern Russian. It is a bit aged (artificially, I suppose) to make it look "ancient" (yet understood, by native speakers at least). So, don't try to talk like that when you go to a shop or something ;)

Hi all!
Sorry for intruding, but I found this post just when I mostly needed it... :) I'm a musician, I'm from Italy and I don't speak Russian, but I'll have to work very soon (and for the second time in my life) on Prokofiev's Aleksandr Nevskij... Sound "Ы" in russian means smb's confusion, or deafness.
