Also, what is in a suffix? I found the word опустошенность in a text and it seems it has a different suffix to what is in the dictionary.

But what's an after-match lottery? Specifically in a football match - do they draw it out of a hat to see who won? Is it a penalty shootout or what? I'm pretty sure from the context that it isn't a draw with a prize at the end of it.

опустошение and опустошённость

These words are subtly different. Опустошённость is a concrete property of something: я люблю опустошённость этого места, I like the emptyness of this place. Опустошение is more of an abstract notion: здесь царит опустошение, emptyness reigns here. Опустошение can also mean the act of emptying.

I would describe the difference as a feeling of emptiness (опустошённость) and a physical devastation (опустошение.)
