I feel silly being in this community and not knowing one word of Russian, but I'll give it my best. I guess you can tell that I'm new here.

Добро пожаловать!

You are in a need of a tip at setting up the cyrillic display, aren't you? :)

Well, you'll have to have some cyrillic fonts installed, and maybe have the cyrillic encoding added to the encodings. It is all os dependant, but I suspect that you're using windows, right?

Hmm, I don't have much experience with setting up russian on macosx (Classic - sure, but not osx), but I suspect it is more or less the same-ish then on any other unix (if you want to do it the hard way). ;)

On other hand, I also think that there should (and knowing apple, most probably is), an easy way to do it.

Can't help you there, sorry.

I suspect you need to somehow enable them for your browser. OSX uses, utf, right? And LJ also uses UTF. Maybe you either need to make both aware of the fact (I have no idea why they wouldn't be automagically), or make way to force LJ (it has a setting for that I think), to re encode all the russian as either cp1251, or koi-8r for you (but that's counterproductive).

Offtopic:
I was always wondering where do you get one of those pixelated face userpics?
I can make it from the template, but where do you get the original stuff from? :)

I love MacOS X’s multilingual support! I presume you have things to the point where you have the little flag in the menubar and you can choose English or Russian keyboard layout, right? If you have any trouble with it, reply to this comment and I’ll help you if I can. If you have trouble learning the Russian keyboard layout, there are alternatives available that are more like QWERTY; you can probably find some at http://www.sil.org/.

I was delighted when I wanted to enter a particular Chinese character and I stumbled across an easy way to do it in MacOS X out of the box, with no special Chinese localization or customization.

Ah. Haven’t tried IE; I try to avoid it as much as possible. Posting in Safari works fine.

Once I met a boy while being on holiday. The only russian words he knew were "кошка", "пистолет" & "молоко". Now that's a way to start embracing the culture.
