Calling all degenerates!

I'm very interested in gambling, but none of the resources I have give the phrases that one needs.

Can someone tell me if there is a way to say:

'cover the spread' - like 'The Patriots won the game but they didn't cover the spread.'

in horse racing, is there an equivalent to 'win, place, show,' or is 1st, 2nd, 3rd used?

Is there a verb or phrase for 'to have money on' or 'to be riding on' as in, to have placed a bet on someone or some team? Like 'I've got 50 bucks riding on those assholes.'

Thanks all.

Wow, those are tough questions. I guess I can help with some.

"Place bet on ..." - сделать ставку(ставки pl.) на ...
Can be used for horses, cards, roulette, etc.
The rest - you'l have to find someone who gambles more :-)

"To have money on" is also "поставить" and, more informally, "зарядить". Your last phrase will be something like "Я на этих козлов 50 баксов зарядил".

'The Patriots won the game but they didn't cover the spread.' - "Пэтриотс" выиграли игру, но с недостаточной разницей в счете.

"to cover the spread" - преодолеть разницу в счете.

Said above: tough questions :)
I have lived near the racetrack for 20 years, but I've never even heard all this terminology :)

Sorry I can't help in this :)

Well, "зарядить" is too much slang. Lots of people won't understand you.

Only "поставить (на)"

Well, first question is tough, because I still can't understand the exact meaning of "cover the spread". Can you give more examples of usage with explanation what does it mean in English?

Ok. This should be "выиграли с недостаточной разницей в счёте", but even in this way you may not be understood exactly, because of no such popular gamgling practice.
