I'm reading a text and have come across a word I can't find in my dictionary:

"c различными корнями"

Does anyone know what this means? Thanks.

If it's from mathematics - 'with different roots' (e.g. equation with different roots)
Otherwise, 'origin' or 'background' - with different origins.

You should have looked the word "корень" in the dictionary - "корнями" is plural, Instrumental case from "корень".

In linguistic context, the word корень means stem.

No, "основа" is stem. "Корень" is root.
