Who are "kapitsohki"? Some comic strip characters? Last time I came across this name is on the last photograph here:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/velik_moguch/259952.html?#cutid1
One of the comments says it's better when they're called "mushariki". Another announces a new film "Silence of the kapitoshki" :))))))
WHO THE HELL ARE THEY??
Many thanks per advance!

Well yeah, it was one of those toons that our generation grew up on... It's strange that there's not a single picture of Kapitoshka anywhere on the web. I can barely remember what he looked like.

And Капитошка is also familiar variant of Капитон - an old name, rarely used now.
Мушарики, I think, is just a funny word, sounds like мушки and шарики at once.

mushariki... hmm... for me it associates with losharik - another cartoon pony made of balls. Probably, [livejournal.com profile] annyway is right about it's etymology

My memory is really rusty, but I think there was another character in the same cartoon by the name of Losharik (from лошадь/horse and шарик/little ball). It was a funny horse made of balls.

But why Musharik??? Beats the hell out of me.

I am afraid, your are not right. look http://www.myltik.ru/db/rus/v/vozvraschaisya_kapitoshka.jpg :)

Thank you!

Actually they seem to have referrer checking so direct links to images don't work, so for the sake of others, here are the links: Kapitoshka (http://www.myltik.ru/index.php?topic=db&mult=view&multid=840) and Losharik (http://www.myltik.ru/index.php?topic=db&mult=view&multid=173)...

it's rather strange to hear that direct links to images don't work, if they are shown when you look through the mentioned pages

kapitoshka not only cartoon character or condom filled with water :-)
its also a popular toy - elastic bubble with eyes painted on it and filled with flour. You can make from it a lot of funny faces

Nah, Losharik is a separate cartoon about a horsy made out of baloons and balls of assorted sizes. My son loves reading this book, and, frankly, the book is much more optimistic and interesting than a stupid cartoon made based on it.

Musharik - I think there were some creatures from the same cartoon as the one Kapitoshka featured in, but I'm not positive

Not strange at all. When an image loads from a web page, the HTTP referrer is the web page's address; when it's linked straight, the referrer is remote (in our case, it's the address of this post). A lot of servers cut off remote referring for images, to prevent what's called "traffic leeching".
