Perhaps some of you Russianists can answer this question...

Is there an idiom in Russian that means roughly 'things will never be the same'? I'd go ahead and translate the English phrase into Russian but if there's a Russian idiom, I'd rather use that. Спасибо :-)

"Поезд ушёл" - "The train is gone", meaning, roughly, that it's too late to get on the train now. It is somewhat similar to "don't cry over the spilled milk" - but without the advice part :-) Something like, "the milk is spilled."

If you'll give us a context, it would be easier to suggest an appropriate idiom.

"В одну реку дважды не войдёшь" - Not originally Russian, but everybody knows it.

Not quite an equivalent... Though I admit that so far I haven't been able to find one.

Its meaning is more of "can't live through the same event twice", while "things will never be the same" refers to something (event/person) that has had a significant impact on people's lives.

Yes, the phrase is not the best equivalent. Still thinking...

Perhaps, "Всё течёт, всё изменяется."

Well, in this context more like "всё утекло, всё изменилось", though this sounds like nonsense :)
