Although this doesn't relate to Russian language, can someone update me as to what's happening in Russia now? I heard about the plane crashes, but my mother told me that there was also a sequestering of schools and killing of professors. And I'm worried.

Two aircrafts crashed simultaneously. It was few days ago. They say, it was an act of terrorism.

Yesterday, a she-terrorist blew herself up near a subway station. About 5 people died.

Today, a school in the south of Russia was invaded by the group of terrorists.

it's really not so significant that the suicide bomber in this situation was a woman. they generally are.

This all goes on for some 12 years now. Did you visit Russian before that?

Russian terrorists use women suicide bombers? That's a big change from the suicide bombers in Israel... as they say, "different strokes for different folks"

Last year we had a Chechen suicide bombing at a major rock festival in Moscow. 14 young listeners died, dozens were injured. Then, somebody blew him(her?)self up in a crowded subway train. 42 died, hundreds were injured. This wasn't all, I just remind the cases of the widest media coverage.

I thought people from Chechnya were Chechen and not Chechnian?

So are the Chechens against the Russian in the same way that the Irish are against the English? In other words, they find any excuse to kill innocent people based on territory?

Whilst I don't know the full stories behind either Chechen or Irish bombings, I do know that giving them what they want will not stop the bombings. Terrorists cannot be negotiated with... that's what I learned on "The World Is Not Enough", so it must be true.

You were right. In English it is so. In Russians they are чеченцы. But in Chechen language they call themselves Nokhchi.

>that's what I learned on "The World Is Not Enough", so it must be true

Believe me, the real lief is much, much more complex than any silly Hollywood movie.
Unfortunately we have learnt this lesson not on the silly movies (I wish we would!) but on everyday life.

Believe me, this all is much more difficult and scary than the Ireland situation. It's Jikhad. The U.S. face exactly the same in Afghanistan and Iraq, and carefully step into the same puddles.

:( My goodness. I didn't mean to sound so ignorant. I guess I was just referring to the recent things...

It is? Palestinian suicide bombers are often female. It's seen as a way to bring honor to their families, in some circles.

it's significant.

Islam doesn't permit women to do an act of terrorism, if it is possible to do it by men.

But chechens use their women.

And, in addition, chechens takes small children (even infants) as hostages.

oh that was so awful. i'm in england right now and the bbc has been covering the disaster very well and its just very depressing.

i'm was talking about the women who are called black widows and wind up doing a lot of the suicide bombing in russia. i dont know if a group of men or men and women combined decides that they should be the ones to do the bombing or if they decided themselves or in a group of women. i suppose its significant to state if someone knows little about chechnyan terrorism.

Just to correct: The World Is Not Enough is a British movie, not American. But it's true that one shouldn't learn on this kind of semi-parody movies.
However, it seems to me that the Russians haven't learnt anything either. It's just getting worse and worse every time and no solution is seen.

Just to make things clear

I cannot say anything like "the whole nation haven't learnt." Can you? Are you God?
When I say "we have learnt" I only mean the people I know. I never identify myself with the ones I don't know.
As for me, I have learnt a lot. More than I would wish.
