Substitutions of e for ё

Is there a rule that requires one to use все instead of всё? And the same goes for еще and ещё. I myself never encountered eщё until just now...

The two dots above ё are usually omitted in print. I hate this practice, but cannot do much about it, except using ё online whenever I feel like it. Ёёёёёёёё!

всЁ - only in the singular

Oh... "еще/ещё"... He-he... You are talking about two points... Usually "ё" is replaced with "e" for ink-saving. Well you can say: "Cheseparing!" - but imagine it is not a handwritten page in your copy book but a novell. "War and Peace" (~2000 pages (vay be more))by L. Tolstoy for example. And the run lenght is about 500 000 copies. And and the "ё" with it's notorious points can be found 10 (or may be 100) times per page... So isn't saving considerable? They say: Копейка рубль бережет (Penny and penny laid up will be many)

But I like this vowel: ё = йо

The reason that you're confused is that the letter ё is rarely used in Russian anymore; you'll see it in textbooks and some children's books, but probably not in many other places. I recommend that you keep using it, however, since it helps you remember pronunciation. (That's what I do, except in the rare cases when I don't want my Russian to look any odder than it already is. *grin*)

The words еще and ещё are the same, both pronounced "yehSHYOH", more or less. If you want to use ё in your writing, use ещё.

However, все and всё are actually two different forms of the pronoun весь:

       M            N        F       PL
NOM    весь         всё      вся     все
ACC    весь/всего   всего    всю     все/всех
GEN    всего        всего    всей    всех
PREP   всём         всём     всей    всех 
DAT    всему        всему    всей    всем
INST   всем         всем     всей    всеми

So, while you may see всё and все both written все, they're pronounced differently - you'll have to use the context to figure out how it's pronounced.

As for when to use them ... you can use все to mean "everyone" and всё to mean "everything" on their own. Otherwise, as far as I've seen in my studies, they're pretty predictable when used to modify nouns.

The letter ё wasn't introduced until the 19th century, and a true purist would use it discriminately - only when the pronunciation isn't clear from the context. Some people, on the other hand, just don't bother to dot their ё's, and some insist that ё should always be dotted, to the point of making a media hype out of it. The latter are, in the strictest of academical terms, wrong. «Ё» is a supplement, not a letter in its own right; in older English books you might encounter spellings like coöperation but that doesn't go to show that ö is a separate letter of the English alphabet. However, ё is strictly observed in children's books and language learning aids.

Also, небо (sky) and нёбо (mouth palate) are quite different words... but so different that you can figure out which one it is just from the context ;)

Provided you're not omitting all dots over Ё's, "еще" stands in place of "ещё" only in the expression "всё еще" = "still", "so far".

Well, it's two different cases.

Все and всё are TWO different words with different (but similar) meaning:
as it is correcly said above,

"все" - all
"всё" - everything

BUT, if some text is written without yo's, these two words are looking the same, though pronounced in different way. Compare with English: "I read newspapers every day" (present) vs. "I have read this book" (present perfect). Same look, different pronunciation.

And "еще" и "ещё" is the SAME word, but written in TWO different ways - with or without the dots. The meaning and pronunciation is the same.
You can compare it to "it's" and "it is". Two ways to write, but same meaning.

В разговорной речи - обязательное произношение ё, когда это необходимо. А в письме не обязательно, т.к. тот, кто читает поймёт, что имелось ввиду из контекста.
