(no subject)

The foreigner in "Osennij Marafon" keeps repeating about remodeling they've done in the apartment some phrases -- something like "маленький раскардаш" -- Does anyone know the second word in the phrase?

it means confusion

this word means "a mess" :)
"кавардак" could be used instead in the same meaning with the same connotation.

Бардак is strong enough. Originally it meant hotel with sluts, "brothel".
Now it is softer, but still negative.
Беспорядок is absence of порядок, disorder. It is something you can easily sort out.
Каша is rare term for this. I think it is used to emphasize that something looks like mixed, overturned, etc.
Look, it is каша:

I've never even come across that word, actually.

I never saw it in this spelling. (It is a rare enough word anyway, I would say unusual.) Беспорядок is probably the most generic and neutral-sounding one. Бардак is much stronger, and I would not use it in any official context. Каша is mostly used in phrases like заварить кашу, to create an unpleasant situation.

Google also finds 40,400 results for карова, which, however, does not make this a legitimate spelling.

there are раскордаж and раскардаш just with different origin. gramota.ru tells it's раскардаш. but this is slang anyway.

I was quite confident until now that the word must be spelt as "разгардаж". It seems, however, that I was wrong and "раскардаш" is the proper spelling.
I know that word since my childhood (and I am a Muscovite) and the meaning is "disorder", "mess", etc.

Gramota.ru has an interesting version of the word etymology (at the very bottom of the page): http://www.gramota.ru/igra/contests/archive/39_33
