I'm thinking of applying to a Middlebury Language School, and I was *again* just wondering whether or not anyone here in this community has been to the Middlebury Russian School. You know, insights, ups, downs, and whether or not it's appropriate for a young 'un like myself fresh out of high school.

I haven't been on it personally, but everyone I know who has done it has raved about it.

It's a really strong program.

One of the girls I was with in Moscow went to Middlebury before she came to Moscow. I didn't know her before she went, so I can't compare her grammar or vocab between what it was before and after, but she was definitely one of the most confident Russian speakers in our group. She wasn't afraid to just start talking to someone in Russian.

I was admitted to the graduate program a couple of years ago and a friend of mine taught there last summer. The best statement I can make is that it is definitely the most effective program in the United States for rapidly improving all facets of Russian-language ability, and it's better than a fair number of programs in Russia, too. If I were a beginning student of Russian and improving language ability (rather than cultural stuff) was my primary objective, I'd choose the Language School over a trip to Moscow or Petersburg.

My cousin went there, and he absolutely loved it! I'm contemplating whether or not I should transfer, but I have 3 more semesters before I have to worry about that.
