Masculine nouns:
Ending in a hard consonant-
билет -> билет-е (singular), билет-ах (plural)

Ending in ь or й-
роял-ь -> роял-е (singular), роял-ях (plural)
музе-й -> музе-е (singular), музе-ях (plural)

Feminine nouns:
Ending in а-
картин-а -> картин-е (singular), картин-ах (plural)

Ending in я or ь-
недел-я -> недел-е (singular), недел-ях (plural)
цел-ь -> цел-е (singular), цел-ях (plural)

Neuter nouns:
Ending in о, це, ще, or же-
блюд-о -> блюд-е (singular), блюд-ах (plural)
чудовищ-е -> чудовищ-е (singular), чудовищ-ах (plural)

Ending in ле or ре-
пол-е -> пол-е (singular), пол-ях (plural)

Ending in ие-
здан-ие -> здан-ие (singular), здан-иях (plural)

Ending in ье or ьё-
ущел-ье -> ущел-ье (singular), ущел-ьях (plural)

There are always exceptions, but these are the general rules.
(Examples taken from Katzner's English-Russian/Russian-English Dictionary.)

Interesting, it looks like Katzner screwed up with цель and здание: should be цел-ь -> цел-и, здан-ие -> здан-ии.

Crap. I knew I was going too fast.

You're right, it should be цели and здании for those examples. It even says that in the dictionary. Next time I might just take a minute to proofread what I've written.

Thank you.
