What does ЖЖ mean? I'm guessing it stands for something. I see it a lot on Russian sites.

ЖЖ= Живой Журнал, that's Livejournal :)

Aaah, it's the Russian equivalent of LJ :) I take it «Живой» means live, then.

Yeah, the word Жизнь means life, and thus Живой is the adjectival form.

ah yes, but isn't ZhZh (sorry dears, I have no cyrillic font on my computers) a word in itself? I'm sure I've seen it in the dictionary... *curses that she's at a friend's house without her uber dictionary.. that or i'm thinking about the words for bug, which i'm not sure on right now but i think is zhutka... bleh, nevermind :D

Жук = beetle.

The first time I saw that word (before I really knew anything before Russian), it was printed in a rather decorative font with the first letter majescule (it was on the lyrics of a Mussorgsky song of that name), and the first letter looked really like an insect :)

wow, it's astonishingly difficult to read russian in roman characters. I even went and stared to lookup "znat'", but stopped once the process of looking it up had forced the cyrillic to form in my mind :)

Нет, такого слова нет в русском словаре... Или это должен быть ОЧЕНЬ НОВЫЙ словарь, выпущенный после появления Живых Журналов ;)
