browse the web / surf the internet / browse the internet

How do you say: browse the web / surf the internet / browse the internet? What are the different alternatives and which is the most common? Are any of these commonly used in everyday speech?

Сидеть в интернете
Искать в интернете (browse the internet for...)
Сидеть в сети
Бродить по сети.
As for серфовать/серфить, I've heard it some times, but I think it's either obsolete or specific for some little groups.

Сидеть в интернете is the most generic one. Серфить sounds like a direct translation from English, and does not sound pretty at all.

In pre-internet time I've heard an awesome verb комповаться, pity it did not make it to the internet. There is also a verb гуглить and derivatives: погуглить, нагуглить, выгуглить.

I agree with the above comments re "сидеть в интернете" - it's the most common one. It's also may be used for services, like: "сидеть в аське", "сидеть в чате" etc.

"лазить по интернету" - to surf (HTTP and FTP only!)
"сидеть в интернете" - to be on-line
"тянуть из интернета" - to download
"качать ..." - the same
"заливать [на сервер]" - to upload
"раздавать в интернете" - to share
