Lol, I would never use an online translator to copy/paste and "write" something in a language I didn't know... xD
But I do think they're very helpful for translating something in the original language, just to read it. Because having SOME idea of what the message says is a LOT better than not knowing at all :/ (and it takes a long time to learn a language well enough to know it yourself :p)
In 1998, I've seen a guy in New York's coolest club to date, The Cooler (now defunct.) The guy was wearing a T-shirt with the following inscription on the front side: НЕНАВИЖУ РАВНОПРАВИЕ ПОЛОВ, ЗДОРОВЫЙ ОБРАЗ ЖИЗНИ И ПОЛИТИЧЕСКУЮ КОРРЕКТНОСТЬ
I could not help asking him if he knew what his T-shirt was saying. He said he didn't. I asked him where he got it; he said, Amsterdam. Then I translated the slogan to him. The guy nodded and said: "This is exactly what I mean."
(the T-shirt was saying "I hate equal rights of sexes, healthy life and political correctness.")
