режиссёр-лаборант

Is режиссёр-лаборант in theater an assistant state manager? Or does it mean something like stage manager in training?

Thank you.

It's a quite unusual combination, where did you find it?

Well, i think I have found it. It was an director's assistant for choosing variant of text in the theater of Meyerhold. The position was invented by Meyerhold and I believe no one else used it after him.

There were a lot of "theatric laboratories" (театральные лаборатории) - kinda small groups of actors - I guess (not sure) a director of this group could be called режиссер-лаборант
